How it plays

Build it. Hold it. Survive it.

01

Build the maze

Your towers are the walls. Make every creep walk the long way.

02

Hold the line together

Up to 8 players, one lane each, one shared pool of lives.

03

Face the giants

The Abyssal Kraken, the Deepmaw and the Furnace Colossus.

04

Survive four acts

120 waves from The Gathering Dark to The Last Maul.

The acts end in giants

Meet the giants

Bosses come every few waves and a ground boss that breaks through costs 3 lives. Then the giants walk in.

The Abyssal Kraken

Wave 60 · end of Act II

The Abyssal Kraken

It rises out of a black tide that drowns every tower behind it, and its arms seize your best tower ahead.

If it breaks through, it costs 10 lives. While a giant walks, selling refunds every gold piece: sell behind it, rebuild ahead.

The Deepmaw

Wave 90 · end of Act III

The Deepmaw

A worm the size of a keep. It burrows under your maze and erupts, burying the towers around it.

If it breaks through, it costs 10 lives. While a giant walks, selling refunds every gold piece: sell behind it, rebuild ahead.

The Furnace Colossus

Wave 120 · end of Act IV

The Furnace Colossus

A walking forge. It tramples everything in its path and its roar staggers every tower near it. If it breaks through, the run is lost.

If it breaks through, the run is over. While a giant walks, selling refunds every gold piece: sell behind it, rebuild ahead.

Questions

Is The Last Maul free?

Yes. Fire, Frost and Storm and waves 1–30 (all of Act I) are free to play, as long as you like, and so is the Daily Challenge with every race. Premium unlocks the other 5 races and everything after Act I.

Do I need to download anything or make an account?

No. The Last Maul runs in your web browser. You can play as a guest; a free account saves your scores, level and friends.

How many players can play together?

Up to 8 in one game, each defending a lane of their own with one shared pool of lives. Empty seats can be filled with AI teammates, and you can always play solo.

What is a tower maul?

A tower defence where your towers are the maze. Creeps walk across open ground to the goal, and every tower you build bends their path; you can't block it completely, so the skill is making the walk as long as possible past your strongest towers.

How long is a game?

A full run is 120 waves in four acts, ending with the Abyssal Kraken at wave 60, the Deepmaw at wave 90 and the Furnace Colossus at wave 120. Once your run reaches Act II or later you can continue it another day from the start of that act. The Daily Challenge is 30 waves.

What do I need to play?

A recent desktop browser with WebGL and a mouse. The game picks a graphics level for your computer and you can change it in Options.
